Principal’s Message

Dear P.S. 182 Families,

Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year!

I hope you and your family had a fun, restful, and memorable summer. My name is Shaunta McGann-Jackman, and I am honored to serve as the Principal of P.S. 182. Home of the Dragons!

On behalf of our dedicated faculty, staff, and administration, I would like to warmly welcome both our returning families and those joining our school community for the first time. We are excited to partner with you to ensure every child receives a safe, supportive, and engaging educational experience. Our commitment remains focused on helping every student learn, grow, and thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

This school year brings many exciting opportunities for our students and families. In addition to strengthening many of our successful programs, we are proud to introduce several new initiatives designed to enhance the educational experience at P.S. 182.

What's New This Year

Breakfast Program
Beginning this year, we will offer a daily Breakfast Program from 7:30–7:50 a.m., for grades K-5, ensuring students start each day nourished, focused, and ready to learn. 

Financial Literacy
Our fifth-grade students will participate in a new Financial Literacy program through FiWe, helping them build foundational knowledge in budgeting, saving, financial responsibility, and entrepreneurship.

Expanded Visual & Performing Arts
We are excited to expand our Visual and Performing Arts Department. Every student in Kindergarten through Grade 5 will receive weekly music and studio arts instruction. We are also pleased to continue our valued partnerships with Studio in a School and Education Through Music, providing students with meaningful artistic experiences throughout the year.

New School Website & Mobile App
In partnership with Solved Consulting, we are launching a brand-new school website and mobile app. These tools will allow us to communicate important information with families more efficiently, in real time, and in your preferred language.

Expanded English as a New Language (ENL) Services
Our ENL Department continues to grow to better support students learning English as a new language. We are excited to welcome Ms. Tatiana Santiago to our K-2 ENL team.

Expanded Physical Education
Our Physical Education Department has also expanded to better serve our students. Please join us in welcoming our new Physical Education teacher, Mr. Gregory Blum, to the P.S. 182 family.

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
This year we are launching our new schoolwide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework. Through PBIS, we will foster a positive school culture while teaching students the social, emotional, and behavioral skills necessary for success both inside and outside the classroom.

Growing Learning Community
As our school community continues to grow, we have opened additional Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) and Self-Contained classrooms across multiple grade levels. These new classrooms will help maintain smaller class sizes and provide increased support for all learners. We are excited to welcome Ms. Fuller, Ms. Sotero, Ms. Lloren and Ms. Edwards to our school community.

Expanded After-School Opportunities
We are proud to partner with Mosholu Montefiore Community Center (MMCC) to offer an enriching after-school program for 150 of our students in Kindergarten through Grade 5. MMCC provides homework assistance, sports, technology, arts, enrichment clubs, and many other engaging activities. Families interested should contact our Parent Coordinator, Ms. Williams, for additional information. Seats are on a first come first served basis.

As we begin this new school year, I encourage every family to stay connected with us. Our monthly school calendar, website, social media accounts and mobile app will provide important updates about school events, programs, and opportunities to become involved in our community.
