Creative Curriculum

At P.S. 182, we use the Creative Curriculum exclusively in our 3K and Pre-K classes to promote holistic child development through project-based, hands-on learning that builds your child's academic, social, and emotional skills simultaneously. Our program develops core cognitive abilities like problem-solving and critical thinking while providing daily opportunities to strengthen literacy (including phonological awareness and letter knowledge) and math skills through both direct instruction and child-led activities, all aligned with New York State Common Core standards. We prioritize social-emotional development, helping children manage their feelings, build self-confidence, self-control, and empathy, while learning to relate positively to teachers and peers. By emphasizing play as a fundamental vehicle for learning, we encourage curiosity and foster a lifelong love of learning while developing children across multiple domains—cognitive, social/emotional, physical, and language—rather than focusing on just one area. Our teachers tailor lessons to individual student needs and interests through in-depth projects involving real-world scenarios that seamlessly integrate different subjects. The Creative Curriculum also actively involves families in the learning process, promoting strong school-home connections while respecting each child's individual differences and cultural background.

HMH

Aligned with the NYC Reads initiative, P.S. 182 has fully transitioned to HMH Into Reading across grades K–5, ensuring that every student builds a strong foundation in literacy. Instruction emphasizes phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, fluency, and comprehension, providing students with the skills they need to become confident, capable readers. Grounded in the Next Generation Learning Standards, lessons invite students to explore a diverse range of texts that promote critical thinking, discussion, and analysis of themes, topics, and ideas. Through structured writing units, students learn to craft narratives, informative pieces, and opinion essays using evidence and voice. Together, these programs strengthen our commitment to teaching the whole child—fostering curiosity, creativity, and communication—while ensuring all students engage deeply with reading and writing every day.

Amplify Desmos Math

P.S. 182 uses Amplify Desmos Math to create meaningful and engaging learning experiences that help students develop a deeper understanding of mathematics. Through interactive lessons, real-world connections, and collaborative problem-solving, students are encouraged to think critically, communicate their ideas, and grow as confident mathematicians.

With Amplify Desmos Math, students:

• Learn through exploration — Lessons encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
• Share their mathematical thinking — Students use a variety of approaches, from paper and pencil to digital tools, to demonstrate their understanding.
• Collaborate with others — Activities promote meaningful discussion, teamwork, and learning from different perspectives.

Through continued use of Amplify Desmos Math, we are helping students build strong mathematical foundations and become thoughtful, confident problem solvers prepared to apply their learning both in and beyond the classroom.

Passport for Social Studies

The Passport to Social Studies curriculum, developed by the NYCDOE, provides students with an inquiry-based approach that builds critical thinking, literacy, and civic understanding. Lessons are designed to help students “think like historians” by analyzing primary sources, developing evidence-based arguments, and engaging in rich discussions—skills that directly support reading and writing growth. For our multilingual learners, Passport integrates vocabulary, speaking, and comprehension practice within meaningful content, aligning perfectly with our focus on language development. Its culturally responsive materials reflect the diversity of the Bronx, helping students see their own identities in history and fostering inclusivity. The structured lesson guides also support co-teaching and ICT settings by offering built-in scaffolds and differentiation opportunities. Overall, Passport strengthens social studies instruction while advancing literacy, language, and critical thinking—empowering our students to connect their learning to the world around them

Physical Education (PE)

In schools, Physical Education (PE) promotes physical fitness, teamwork, and overall well-being. It includes activities like sports, exercise, and movement-based games to develop motor skills, coordination, and healthy habits. PE also teaches students about the importance of an active lifestyle, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
